One pincushion for each day of WW1    (1,568 days)

one hundred sawdust hearts

I am currently in the process of putting together a funding bid for a project to include an exhibition to mark the centenary of the end of WW1. (11th November 2018) If this project goes ahead, it is my intention to tour a presentation on WW1 Sweetheart Pincushions to schools, social groups, historical groups etc in and around the Scarborough area, in order to garner interest in helping to make 1,568 pincushions. One for every day that The 'Great War' or the 'War to End All Wars' lasted. (from the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand to Armistice Day).

1,568 sawdust filled hearts would be made and distributed for embellishment by men, women and children who would like to take part in this project.

Each heart would be assigned a particular date, and would be decorated using the traditional bead and pin method, which was used on the original cushions.

Below are photographs of some of my example cushions which would form part of the tour. I will keep this site updated with progress on the funding situation.
